We thought better onboarding meant more information.
Turns out, it meant less. For the past three months, our team has been rethinking how we welcome new people. The biggest thing we changed? We stopped trying to fit everything into day one. Instead, we introduced small weekly milestones and paired each new teammate with a buddy. Less overwhelm. More confidence. More room to ask questions. It was a good reminder: helping people succeed isn’t always about giving them more. Sometimes it’s about giving them the right thing, at the right time. What’s one small change that made a big difference for your team?
Better feedback starts with a better question.
Instead of asking “How did I do?”, try asking “What is one thing I could improve next time?” Specific questions make it easier for people to offer useful, actionable advice. They also make it easier for us to act on it. Growth doesn’t always require a bigger plan. Sometimes it starts with a smaller question.
